New Codes Proposed

The City of Norman is currently evaluating codes to be updated including building, fire prevention, and property maintenance codes and considering what, if any, local amendments to the state codes may be appropriate to reflect community standards for the built environment. The link below includes background information about the role of the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code (OUBCC), and the City’s obligatory compliance to adhere to state codes. The City may, however, adopt amendments deemed more stringent than the state adopted codes to help assure a suitable level of health and safety in the built environment within the City of Norman. Here is the document: City of Norman to update building, fire prevention and property maintenance codes

Evaluation of the codes will be ongoing through May 27, 2016. The public is welcome and encouraged to propose revisions, additions, deletions with substitution, and/or deletions without substitution to the 2015 International Codes and the 2014 National Electrical Code by completing and submitting the public proposal form by mail at 201-A West Gray Street, Norman, OK 73069, by fax at (405) 366-5445, or by e-mail at Here is the public proposal form:  Public Proposal Form.
