Water crews install upgraded water line connection Tuesday

A new 42-inch water line and a 20-foot by 30-foot concrete vault will be installed Tuesday to provide backup for water delivered from the Norman Water Treatment Plant to water customers.
The contractor and City crews will install a 36-inch tee connection Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of 24th Ave. NE and Robinson St. High service pumps to the water treatment plant will need to be turned off for four to six hours while the new connection is made. Customers should not notice any change in water service while during this time.
All work will take place south of Robinson St. and should not affect traffic. Once complete, the contractor will be able to resume constructing the concrete vault to house the valves associated with the connection.
The Norman Utilities Authority (NUA) has contracted with McKee Utility to install the upgrades. The need for this project was identified as part of the NUA’s review of the current water model to provide better service to customers. The final product will be two large 36-inch and 42-inch water lines that improve water distribution and pressure for customers during peak hours. Crews are expected to complete the project in December 2019.
Questions about the construction may be directed to Chris Mattingly at 405-366-5443 or chris.mattingly@normanok.gov.
