Upcoming Traffic Shifts on the West Lindsey Street Project

The south half of the Wiley Road and West Lindsey Street intersection will open on Friday. On the same day, the traffic on West Lindsey Street will be shifted to the inside middle lanes to allow construction of the remaining driveways and light pole footings. This work is expected to be complete the first week in December.

Signs will be in place to direct motorists.

If weather permits, permanent pavement will be installed on northbound McGee Drive on Friday, starting at approximately 9:30 a.m. The pavement installation is expected to be complete by 2 p.m. on the same day. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and flagmen will direct motorists through the construction zone.

Questions can be directed to Chris Serrano, construction manager, at 366-5265.

HISTORY:

On Monday, July 5, 2016 construction on the West Lindsey Street – 24th Avenue SW to east of Berry Road Reconstruction Project began. The estimated completion date is October 2017. This is a $28.4 Million construction project, which was awarded to Sherwood Construction Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is administering the construction of this project.

On August 28, 2012 the citizens of Norman approved a bond issue to finance the local share of eight projects. One of the projects is Lindsey Street from 24th Ave. SW to Berry Road. The proposed improvements include widening Lindsey Street from 3 lanes to 4 lanes with a raised median; a new bridge over Imhoff Creek, continuous sidewalks on both sides of the street; multi-modal improvements including bicycle lanes; aesthetic enhancements including decorative pavement, landscaping, and roadway lighting; underground utilities; accessibility to disabled individuals; and improved drainage system on Lindsey Street.
