Parks and Recreation seeks names for Veterans Memorial

The City of Norman Parks and Recreation Department is seeking names to include on the Cleveland County Veterans Memorial. To insure engraving by Veterans Day, the deadline for applications is August 31. There is no fee to have a name listed on the memorial.

The memorial, located in Reaves Park, was dedicated on November 11, 2008 and currently contains 2,545 names on its granite tablets. Names were last added to the memorial in 2012. Each tablet can contain approximately 195 names and about 50 names are needed for the next engraving.

To be included on the memorial a veteran must be honorably discharged, and the applicant must provide proof of service and proof of connection to Cleveland County. The application, with eligibility requirements, can be found at

Applications received after August 31 will be added on a future engraving. Engraving and maintenance of the memorial is made possible by donations received through the Norman Park Foundation.
