Main Street to close nightly between Santa Fe and James Garner

Main Street will close nightly between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning tonight for the one block segment between Santa Fe Avenue and James Garner Avenue. The overnight closures allow for the installation of multiple fire lines across Main Street.  This work is estimated to be completed in three to four evenings.  Main Street will be open full use during the day time hours.

Signs will be in place to assist motorists to detour one block south to Comanche Street around the construction.

Any questions can be directed to Tim Miles, City of Norman capital projects engineer, at 366-5454.

The contractor for the project is Central Contracting.

The Main Street waterline project currently being installed between Park Drive and James Garner Avenue will increase capacity and replace the aging infrastructure prior to the construction of the Main Street Streetscape Project later this summer. The streetscape project will include landscaping, sidewalks, street furniture, ADA ramps, decorative lighting, cobblestone paving band and asphalt pavement rehabilitation. When completed, these improvements will closely match the Main Street segment between Jones Avenue and Porter Avenue.
