Flu Shots Available at the Little Axe Community Center on October 13

The Little Axe Community Center will host a flu shot clinic on October 13 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The community center is located at 1000 168th Avenue N.E.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), influenza (the flu) is an infection of the nose, throat, and lungs caused by influenza viruses. There are many different influenza viruses that are constantly changing. They cause illness, hospital stays and deaths in the United States each year.

The flu can be very dangerous for children, according to the CDC. Each year about 20,000 children younger than 5 years old are hospitalized from flu complications, like pneumonia.

Most insurance policies provide coverage for immunizations. Insurance cards are required for those with insurance, and Medicare patients need to bring Medicare cards. The cost for those who are not insured is $25.

Photo identification is also required for flu shots, which will be provided by Classen Urgent Care Clinic of Norman.
