Four- year degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Science, Construction Management, or related field is preferred. Three years of progressively responsible related experience in construction inspection. Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record. Job Description
Duties: 
Inspects all stages of construction. Enforces work zone traffic control requirements in the field. Observes excavation of land and measures depth, grade, distance and location of hydrants, water and sanitary sewer lines to ensure compliance with contract specifications, state laws, and city codes and ordinances. Inspects pipe joints for proper connection. Observes testing of water and sewer lines to ensure that minimum standards for public health are met. Advises and confers with citizens and builders concerning requirements, standards, and changes necessary for compliance with the City’s construction codes. Confers with other City employees to request assistance or information concerning a construction project. Inspects construction materials to ensure that they meet specifications. Inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure an acceptable level of workmanship and compliance with plans and specifications. Maintains a daily log of inspections. Inspects driveways and sidewalks in all stages of construction to ensure compliance with City codes and standards. Performs related work as required.
Working Conditions: 
Frequent exposure for up to 90% of work time to dirt, outdoor temperatures, construction equipment noise, and dust.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience: 
Four- year degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Science, Construction Management, or related field is preferred. Three years of progressively responsible related experience in construction inspection.
Knowledge: 
Construction procedures, techniques, and materials. Testing procedures of concrete, asphalt, soil, water, and sewer lines. Surveying practices and procedures. Mathematical calculations. Applicable state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations.
Skills: 
Surveying and construction staking. Inspecting water lines, sanitary sewer lines, storm sewer lines, and street construction. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with internal staff, citizens, contractors and government agencies. Explaining, interpreting, and enforcing codes and regulations. Analytical abilities necessary to make sound, logical interpretations of codes and regulations are required.
License and/or Certification: 
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record. Mental & Physical: 
Mental/visual effort required due to sustained periods of concentration necessary for the design and layout of a project and the constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to citizens or staff requiring assistance. Moderate amount of physical effort required to climb/descend ladders and for constant standing and walking on steep terrain. Required to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
