Degree in Architecture, Construction Science or related field highly preferred.  Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role, plan review, building inspections, or equivalent work/education background. Must be an ICC Certified Plans Examiner and Certified Building Inspector, or have the ability to obtain the certifications
within six months of employment.  Certified Building Official required.  Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record. Job Description
Duties: 
Represents the Development Services Division. Supervises Building Inspectors, Plans Examiners, and Permit Services staff; interviews and hires personnel; plans, organizes and assigns work; reviews progress and directs changes as needed; motivates staff; trains staff in correct methods and procedures; reviews and evaluates employee performance; administers disciplinary action when necessary. Assists City Building Inspectors, architects, engineers, builders, contractors, and skilled trade personnel by interpreting codes and regulations and responding to questions. Assists in staffing the Board of Appeals meeting when needed. Assists customers by listening, asking questions, explaining technical code issues and offering a workable solution to problems. Communicates and explains policies and procedures to the general public, provides general building and related code and ordinance information to the public. May be called on from time to time to complete inspections. Performs other related work as required/assigned. Performs plan review for commercial, industrial, institutional, multi-family, and residential permit applications as back-up/support to the plans examiners. Assures that staff is following policies and procedures in the receipt, routing and processing of permit applications. Performs related work as assigned/required.
Working Conditions: 
Work is performed in a normal office environment, although site visits are sometimes necessary for verification.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:

Knowledge: 
Applicable City codes and regulations as they relate to building construction. Management theory and supervisory methods and techniques.
Skills: 
Planning, organizing, assigning, directing, and reviewing work. Supervising, motivating, and evaluating staff to obtain effective results. Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership to subordinates, establish a variety of internal and external contacts, and work cooperatively with superior and subordinate staff. Excellent oral and written communications. Exercising comprehensive technical judgment in making decisions related to adopted codes while interpreting and applying city codes and ordinances. Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with general public and co-workers. Dealing with the public firmly, tactfully and impartially in order to achieve desired goal. Reading and interpreting engineering and architectural plans and specifications.
License and/or Certification: 
Must be an ICC Certified Plans Examiner and Certified Building Inspector, or have the ability to obtain the certifications within six months of employment. Certified Building Official required. Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Mental & Physical: 
Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when reading reports, reviewing plans, or responding to citizen inquiries.
