36 Avenue NW to temporarily close north and south of Havenbrook Street this week

A project to replace two deteriorated stormwater drains will require 36 Avenue NW to close from Robinson Avenue to Havenbrook Street on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Northbound traffic on 36 Avenue NW will have access to the intersection at Havenbrook Street. The street will reopen to traffic at 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Thursday evening at 7 p.m., 36 Avenue NW will close from Brookhollow Road to Havenbrook Street, and will reopen on Friday at 7 a.m. Southbound traffic on 36 Avenue NW will not have access to the intersection at Havenbrook Street during this time. Northbound traffic will have access to Brookhollow Road.

The temporary street closures will allow the work to be done more efficiently and more safely for the crews and motorists.

Replacement of the stormwater drains was not included in the 36 Avenue NW/Havenbrook Street signalization and widening project but the two corrugated metal drains were uncovered during the construction and found to be deteriorated. Corrugated metal tends to rust and deteriorate over time in the acidic soils in the area. The replacement stormwater drains will be reinforced concrete drains that are not subject to rusting.

After the drains are replaced, the open trenches will be backfilled and surfaced with temporary surface material in order to open the street to traffic again as quickly as possible.
