12th Avenue SE Project Public Meeting Scheduled for Thursday

Norman residents and business owners are invited to attend a public meeting about an improvement project to reconstruct a portion of 12th Avenue Southeast from just north of Cedar Lane Road to Oak Tree Avenue. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at city hall at 201 West Gray Street.

A presentation about the proposed improvements to 12th Avenue SE will include information about why the improvements are needed, the type of improvements proposed, and the expected impacts to motorists and residents in the area. The City of Norman is seeking input from the public that will assist in the environmental assessment process including the identification of any significant social, economic, and environmental impacts of the project.

The project will widen 12th Avenue SE from Cedar Lane Road to Oak Tree Avenue from two lanes to four lanes with 5 foot wide on-street bike lanes. The project also includes intersection improvements at state Highway 9 and 12 Avenue SE. The upgrades to 12th Avenue SE will provide drivers a safer and more efficient transportation corridor.

The total estimated cost of the project is $3,180,000, of which $2,080,000 or 65 percent is being paid by federal transportation funds.
