Residents invited to discuss community issues at December 2 Ward meetings

Norman residents are invited to connect with their community this holiday season by attending a ward meeting to discuss important local issues with their councilmembers. There are currently two separate meetings scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 2.

Water treatment plant temporarily shuts down Wednesday, no service interruption

Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, the City of Norman’s Water Treatment Facility will temporarily shut down its treatment operations in order for a waterline contractor to install a large diameter waterline valve on 24th Avenue East south of Alameda Street.

Intersection of 24th Ave. N.W. and Radius Way to be four way stop Wednesday

The intersection of 24th Ave. N.W. and Radius Way will be a four way stop with stop signs from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday while work to replace the traffic signal controller cabinet is completed. Drivers should plan extra travel time or locate an alternate route. This project is weather permitting.

Major water pump replacement project begins Monday

Norman water utility customers in the city’s high-pressure water plane may experience a small change in water pressure beginning Monday, Nov. 26 for a major water pump replacement project. Work is expected to be complete in March or April 2019 and is weather dependent.

Norman Fire Department gives Thanksgiving Cooking Tips

As families gather in kitchens across Norman to cook Thanksgiving dinner, many are stepping into what is the most potentially dangerous room in the house if safe cooking habits aren’t practiced. 

Intersection of Jones Ave. and Acres Ave. closed through Dec. 20, weather permitting

The intersection of Jones Ave. and Acres St. is closed through December 20 for installation of a new drainage system and roadway construction. A signed detour will be in place and drivers should plan extra travel time or locate an alternate route. This project is weather permitting.

Acres Street will remain closed to through traffic between James Garner Avenue and Jones St. 

West Main St. Bridge and Brookhaven Creek Bridge open Wednesday

On Wednesday, November 21, West Main Street and Brookhaven Creek Bridge will be reopened to traffic. The West Main Street roadway and Brookhaven Creek Bridge opening will be completed ahead of schedule without additional cost to the project.

City Offices Closed, Trash Service Delayed for Thanksgiving Holiday

The City of Norman administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23 in observance of Thanksgiving.  

Trash, yard waste and recycling will not be collected on Nov. 22. Collection for customers regularly scheduled on Thursdays will take place on Friday, and those with Friday collection will move to Saturday, Nov. 24. 

City of Norman investigates incident at Veterans Day Memorial Parade and Ceremony

The City of Norman is investigating circumstances that led to an unfortunate incident during the landing of a Chinook helicopter at Reaves Park for the Veterans Day Memorial Parade and Ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

City of Norman administrative offices close Monday for Veterans Day

The City of Norman administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day. 

The Whittier, Irving and 12th Ave. Recreation Centers will remain open for regular after-school programs from 2 to 6 p.m.
