Nominations sought for City of Norman Human Rights Award

The Norman Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for the annual City of Norman Human Rights Award.  The award recognizes an individual or group in Norman for exceptional achievement, outstanding effort and/or leadership to promote human rights and equality, and service as an example to all.  The deadline for nominations is Nov. 10 with the award to be presented at the Dec.

City of Norman Council adopts resolution rejecting racism

At Tuesday evening’s council meeting, the nine members of the Norman City Council unanimously adopted a resolution rejecting all forms of racism, bigotry, and hate, and calling for a review of the city’s street renaming policy in response to appeals to rename DeBarr Avenue.

City of Norman to Host Public Meeting on ADA Transition Plan

City of Norman to host public meeting on ADA Transition Plan Residents invited to provide input about the public access for the disabledThe public is invited to learn more about the City of Norman’s American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan Update on Thursday, October 26 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 201 W. Gray.  

Councilmember Castleberry to Host Meeting for Ward 3 Residents

Residents of Ward 3 are invited to attend a meeting hosted by Councilmember Robert Castleberry on October 25 at 6 p.m. in the Norman West Public Library, 300 Norman Center Court.

Lindsey Drive at Lindsey Street to Close Thursday Morning

Lindsey Drive at Lindsey Street will close Thursday morning at 7 a.m. to complete the paving at that intersection. Lindsey Drive is expected to reopen at 9 a.m. Monday.

Signs will be in place at Briggs Street and Lindsey Drive and on Lindsey Street to direct motorists.

Webster Avenue to close at Main Street on Friday

Webster Avenue between Main Street and one half block south of Main will be closed Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.  to allow a property owner at the corner of Main and Webster to conduct property maintenance that requires equipment to be placed in the street.

Tickets Available for Mummy & Son Masquerade Ball

Tickets are available now for the 2017 Mummy and Son Masquerade Ball on October 27 at the 12th Avenue Recreation Center. The Mummy and Son Masquerade Ball is a Halloween-themed dance for boys and their mothers, or other special ladies in their lives. 

Brooks Street at McGee Drive to Close Wednesday

Brooks Street at McGee Drive will temporarily close at 7 a.m. Wednesday to allow for installation of permanent pavement and construction of sidewalk ramps. The roadway will reopen by 7 a.m. on October 16.

Upcoming Traffic Shifts on the West Lindsey Street Project

The south half of the Wiley Road and West Lindsey Street intersection will open on Friday. On the same day, the traffic on West Lindsey Street will be shifted to the inside middle lanes to allow construction of the remaining driveways and light pole footings. This work is expected to be complete the first week in December.

Signs will be in place to direct motorists.
