New traffic signal to be activated Thursday at Robinson Street and 48th Avenue NW

The City of Norman will activate the new traffic signal at the intersection of Robinson Street and 48th Avenue NW on Thursday, weather permitting.  After 9 a.m., the intersection may continue to be controlled by all-way stop signs as the contractor works to complete the signal activation.

Application deadline nearing for 2017 Norman Youth Council Class

The City of Norman is seeking high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are active in their school and community, and are interested in learning about local government. The application deadline for the 2017 Norman Youth Council is Friday.

James Garner south of Acres to close Monday

James Garner Avenue, just south of Acres Street, will close Monday at approximately 8 a.m. to allow a contractor for Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG) to relocate a gas main in advance of the James Garner and Acres Intersection Project. The street will reopen by 8 a.m. on July 31.

Tecumseh Road to close Monday between 84 Avenue NE and 96 Avenue NE

Tecumseh Road between 84th Avenue NE and 96th Avenue NE will close at approximately 8 a.m. Monday for installation of a large reinforced concrete box across the road.  The drainage structure is located about one third of a mile east of 84th Avenue NE, and Tecumseh Road will be closed in both directions at this location.  

Food Handler’s Certification Class Scheduled for July 24

The Little Axe Community Center is hosting a food handler’s certification course on July 24 at 6:30 p.m. The course will be conducted by the Oklahoma State Department of Environmental Health.   

Consumer Confidence Report Now Available

Norman water utility customers will soon receive an insert in their utilities bill with a link to the online version of the 2016 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) for the Norman Water System. The report is available at

Intersection of Boyd and McGee closed through July 24

The intersection of Boyd Street and McGee Drive is closed to traffic through July 24 for the installation of a storm pipe across the intersection. The storm pipe, which will connect to the new stormwater sewer system at the intersection of McGee and Lindsey Street, will alleviate historical flooding in the neighborhood north of Boyd Street. 

Water’s Worth It™ Landscape Award

The City of Norman’s Environmental Control Advisory Board (ECAB) is sponsoring  a Water’s Worth It™ Landscape Award which will be presented to a Norman resident or business for creative and attractive landscape maintenance and appearance, while demonstrating wise water use.

Daytime Lane Closure on Jenkins Begins Wednesday

Starting Wednesday, and ranging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day through July 20, excluding Sunday, the outside southbound lane of Jenkins Avenue for half a block south of Lindsey Street will be closed by the University of Oklahoma for the finalization of the new student housing project.
