Sanitation services to stay on schedule for Independence Day

The City of Norman sanitation services will maintain the regular schedule for the Independence Day holiday on Tuesday. Sanitation services include commercial and residential curbside waste collection, as well as recycling and yard waste.

Main Street lane closure between Berry and Flood begins Thursday

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Main Street between Berry Road and Flood Avenue Thursday, if weather permits, as repairs to the existing concrete pavement resume. Deteriorated portions of the existing concrete are removed and replaced with new concrete pavement to improve the ride quality and safety of the street.

West Lindsey Street traffic shifts on Friday

The north half of McGee Drive at West Lindsey Street will reopen Friday and the south half of the same intersection will close. In addition, the north half of the intersection of Wiley Road and West Lindsey Street will be temporarily closed to traffic for the installation of decorative pavement at the intersections.

Chautauqua from Lindsey to Elmwood to close Wednesday

Chautauqua Avenue from Lindsey to Elmwood Street will close after 9 a.m. on Wednesday for installation of a new waterline. As construction allows, local traffic will have access only in the northbound direction on Chautauqua. Temporary driveway access with a gravel surface will be provided each evening. 

Westbound lane on Lindsey Street to close between Jenkins and Asp

The westbound lane on Lindsey Street between Jenkins Avenue and Asp Avenue will close Monday at 8 a.m. for construction of the new drive approach on the south side of the University of Oklahoma’s football stadium. 

Norman Day Celebration features family-friendly fun, food and fireworks

The 42nd annual Norman Day Celebration is July 4 in Reaves Park at 2501 Jenkins Avenue. The event features a variety of family-friendly activities starting at noon, and concluding with fireworks at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Chautauqua from Lindsey to Hoover to close Monday

Chautauqua Avenue from Lindsey to Hoover Street will close Monday for installation of a new waterline. As construction allows, local traffic will have access only in the northbound direction on Chautauqua. Temporary driveway access with a gravel surface will be provided each evening. 

City accepting applications for the 2017 Norman Youth Council Class

The City of Norman is seeking high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are active in their school and community and are interested in learning about local government for the 2017 Norman Youth Council. The deadline to apply is July 28.

Peters Avenue and Comanche Street to be repaved starting Monday evening

A contractor for the City of Norman will begin milling the existing asphalt driving surface on Peters Avenue between Gray and Eufaula Street, including Main Street, Monday evening at 7 p.m., weather permitting.

New Sidewalk to be Installed on Westlawn Drive

A project to install a new sidewalk on the south side of Westlawn Drive between Berry Road and Wylie Road begins Monday. The sidewalk, which is adjacent to Jackson Elementary School, is part of the School Sidewalk Project. The project is expected to be complete in 15 days.

New Parking Restrictions on Ponca Avenue

During the week of June 12, City of Norman traffic control crews will install “no parking” signs along the west side of Ponca Avenue, between Tulsa Street and Okmulgee Street.

Registration Open for Westwood Park Golf Course 2017 Junior Golf Academy

The Westwood Park Golf Course 2017 Junior Golf Academy is scheduled to begin on June 20 from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m.
