Southern lane of Main from Gatewood to Berry to Close Thursday

The southernmost lane of Main Street from Gatewood Drive to Berry Road will close to through traffic tomorrow at 8 a.m., weather permitting, for waterline and road repairs. One eastbound lane will remain open.

Friday at 8 a.m., the southern lane of Main Street will close for waterline and road repairs from Berry Road to 300 feet east. One eastbound lane will remain open.

Jenkins to Temporarily Close Thursday Night through Friday Morning

Jenkins Avenue between Lindsey Street and Stinson Street will be closed to traffic Thursday at 11 p.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday. The one-night temporary closure allows further progress on a phase of construction of a new parking garage for the University of Oklahoma.

Spring Cleanup Kicks Off This Saturday

The City of Norman’s residential spring cleanup kicks off this Saturday with curbside pickup of household items for customers who have regular cart service on Mondays. Residents should have all items out by 7:30 a.m., and may place items at the curb up to a week before their scheduled collection day.

City of Norman Releases New Compost for Norman Residents

A new release of compost will be available for Norman residents starting Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Previously released compost is still available at the City of Norman’s compost facility, south of SH-9 between Jenkins and Chautauqua, at 398 Bratcher Miner Road.

Councilmember Castleberry to hold meeting for Ward 3 residents

Residents of Ward 3 are invited to attend a meeting hosted by Councilmember Robert Castleberry on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Norman West Public Library, 300 Norman Center Court.

The City of Norman Launches New System to Enhance Emergency Preparedness and Communication

The City of Norman is implementing a new system, called Blackboard Connect, for communicating with residents and business owners during emergencies and for important notifications. City officials are asking residents to register their contact information and preferences to receive the communications.

Westwood Family Aquatic Center Public Meetings

Norman residents are invited to attend two public meetings this week, one on Wednesday and one on Thursday, to discuss concepts for the new Westwood Family Aquatic Center. Both meetings are scheduled at 6:30 in city hall at 201 W. Gray.

The first meeting is 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers where consultants will present various preliminary concepts for public review and comment.

Norman Recognized at Arbor Week Celebration

Oklahoma Forestry Services and the Oklahoma Urban and Community Forestry Council recognized Norman on March 16th in Oklahoma City for its achievement in earning Tree City USA status. This designation from The Arbor Day Foundation demonstrates a commitment to healthy trees.

Sign Code to Allow Feather Flags

The City of Norman Sign Code was recently amended to allow feather flags with a permit and with some restrictions. The new code is effective March 24.

Registration for Irving Explorer Camp Begins Monday

Registration begins Monday for Explorer Camp at the Irving Recreation Center. Summer camp is May 31 through August 12 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The camp is for children from age five to 11. Cost is $120 per week, per child.

Northbound Off-ramp from I-35 to Lindsey will Temporarily Close Friday

The northbound off-ramp from Interstate 35 to Lindsey Street will temporarily close on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to work in the area by a contractor for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT).

The detour for the temporary ramp closure is Main Street. Signs will be placed to direct motorists.
