Jenkins Avenue to close tomorrow evening through Wednesday morning

Jenkins Avenue between Lindsey Street and Stinson will be closed to traffic tomorrow at 11 p.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m. Wednesday. The one-night temporary closure allows further progress on a phase of construction of a new parking garage for the University of Oklahoma.

BNSF to Close Main Tomorrow and Gray Wednesday for Maintenance to Railroad Tracks

BNSF Railway will close Main Street at the railroad tracks for maintenance on the track structure beginning at 7 a.m. tomorrow.  Main is expected to reopen to traffic by 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, BNSF Railway will close Gray Street at the railroad tracks at 7 a.m.  Maintenance is expected to be completed and the street reopened by 8 p.m. 

School Safety Zone Beacon Flash Times to Change Monday for Both High Schools

City of Norman traffic control division personnel will reprogram the high school safety zone beacons for both high schools with new flash times Monday after 9 a.m. The beacons will begin to flash at 7 a.m. and at 3:10 p.m. due to a significant increase in the number of high school students attending zero hour.

Norman Fire Chief Retiring after 34 Years with the Department

Chief James Fullingim is retiring after a 34-year career with the City of Norman, serving as the fire chief and emergency manager since June 2006. Fullingim’s last day with the city is Monday.  He begins a new career the next day as a faculty member for the Oklahoma State University’s Municipal Fire Protection program.

24th Avenue East Project Public Meeting Scheduled for March 3

Norman residents and business owners are invited to attend a public meeting about an improvement project to reconstruct a portion of 24th Avenue East from Lindsey Street to north of Robinson. The meeting is scheduled for March 3 and will be hosted by the City of Norman and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT).

Food Handler’s Certification Class Scheduled for March 7

The Little Axe Community Center, in cooperation with the Little Axe Public Schools Child Nutrition program, is hosting a food handler’s certification course on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Axe Elementary Cafeteria. The course will be conducted by staff from the Oklahoma State Department of Environmental Health.
